Food Justice Donations

The UUCK collects monetary and food donations several times each year to address food justice in our local community. The church also participates in the Kent community’s Saturday Hot Lunch Program. Typical collections are:

  • Nonperishable food collections for Kent Social Services.
  • Soup’er Sunday collection, conducted each Super Bowl Sunday to collect canned food and monetary donations for Kent Social Services.
  • Personal item collections for Kent Social Services.
  • Thanksgiving food and gift card basket for Kent Social Services.

The church also participates as a partner in the Kent community’s interfaith Saturday hot lunch program, with members preparing and serving hot lunches four times a year. Kent community members observed that, because Kent Social Services is closed on Saturdays, those in need had no way to get a hot meal on Saturdays.
