How Can We Help?
Monument Signs Policy
Board approved May 1, 2025
Policy Purpose:
The UU Church of Kent has two large monument signs, which play an important role in communicating the church’s presence and identity to the surrounding community. This policy supplies guidelines on the use of the signs.
The Church Administrator will coordinate a team of volunteers to keep the signs updated and will email members of the group regarding the putting up and taking down of information.
Two Sign System:
Gougler sign – located in front of the historic church building. This sign will primarily display information on our Sunday services, church events, outside activities taking place inside the historic Church Building and statements on important social issues.
Mantua sign – This sign is located in front of Hobbs Hall and will primarily display short term event information on Hobbs Hall rentals and church events
- A rainbow logo indicating that we are a Welcoming Congregation should be permanently displayed on both the Gougler and Mantua signs.
- Gougler sign should include information about Sunday services, for example “Family Friendly at 9:30, Traditional at 11:00. The topic of the service should be listed as room permits
- Gougler sign may also be used to advertise church events as room permits
- Gougler sign may also be used for issue-oriented signage as room permits. This would include messages on social and public policy issues – “Black Lives Matter” for example. Any church member may request a message by submitting the proposed message to the Board for approval. The message can be displayed for up to 2 months.
- Mantua sign will be used for short-term event signage for Hobbs Hall renters and church events. There will be no charge to renters for this service. Signage could include:
- Locator information for hall rentals – “Smith Wedding” for example – this information has a short shelf life and should be put up no sooner than the day before and taken down as soon as possible after the event.
- Publicity type info for non profit hall rentals – “NAACP Fundraiser” for example – this information can be displayed up to two weeks before the event, and taken down as soon as possible after the event.
