Inspired by Our Ancestors
In 1868 our UUCK ancestors (Kent leaders with names like Haymaker, Parsons, Boosinger, Stratton, Foote, Kelso and Olin) were visionaries who saw a need in the world for the saving message of Universalism: God loves everyone, no exceptions. They raised money to build a church, which has enabled the message of transformative love to continue until today.
Responding to Our Times
The world needs Unitarian Universalism more than ever. Although buildings are important, it is really our relationships and connections (facilitated by our programs and staff) that deliver our message to the world. We have a generous community, but we lost momentum and members during the pandemic. We also need to weather the economic and social disruptions that we are facing.

Providing for Our Descendants
The 1868 Circle Fund provides an opportunity for occasional financial one-time gifts from members with the means to help augment the budget. Often someone wants to donate after receiving an inheritance, or has an IRA they need to cash in, or wants to save on taxes from a required minimum distribution from a 401K – this will provide an opportunity to help fund the church’s ministry beyond their annual pledge.
The 1868 Circle Fund will serve as designated “reserves” that we can draw upon to support staffing during lean budget years. All monies in this fund are restricted to supporting church staff. Our church staff is vitally important to building membership and bolstering our culture of community and interconnection via our ministry, religious education, and music programs.
