The Rev. Elaine Strawn will tie together the thoughts of two people whom she originally heard Krista Tippett interview: Kwame Anthony Appiah [Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World of Strangers] and Francis Kissling [founder of Catholics for Choice]. Her sermon will focus on how we take the longer view on social issues so that we can become compassionate, effective and unifying.
It seems to me that most people are very busy these days. There are so many things that require our attention it can be challenging to prioritize time for rest, relaxation and spiritual renewal. This morning will be a meditation on finding and keeping our balance. We will also engage in the ritual of the Flower Ceremony. Please bring a flower (or 2) to share.
Last year I invited several members of our community to participate in a worship service exploring the intersections between art and spirituality. The experience was so rich that we decided to make Arts Sunday an annual event. Come be uplifted. Come be inspired.
This service will present different perspectives on the topic of compassion. The 3 presenters (Kathy Kerns, Mary Ann Kasper, Matt Slater) will share their experiences and reactions when confronting need in the world.
