July Special Collection: ACLU Immigration Rights Project

Our July special collection will support the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project protects the civil liberties and due process rights of non-citizens in the U.S.  Through impact litigation, advocacy, and community outreach, the project challenges unconstitutional detentions, discriminatory profiling, family separation, and unlawful enforcement tactics at the federal, state, and local levels.

June Special Collection: Appalachian South Folklife Center

Our June special collection will support Appalachian South Folklife Center: The center assists families in need through the Service Work program. College, church and civic groups come to the Folklife Center to learn about Appalachia while performing volunteer work for folks in our area facing hard times. This program helps people with their home repair needs and provides other services to community non-profit and grassroots organizations. The program also allows volunteers to learn about Appalachian heritage and culture. They gain valuable teamwork and leadership skills while learning specific home repair skills at the same time..

April 2026 Special Collection: Camp Lilac

During the month of April, our special collection will support Camp Lilac.

The Mission of Camp Lilac is to provide a safe, welcoming space for transgender and gender diverse youth to be themselves in a positive, supportive, youth-focused environment.

The Camp is an overnight summer camp in Ohio for transgender and gender diverse youth. The program enables campers to emerge with an increased sense of confidence in their identities and a strong community of peers and supporters.

March 2026 Special Collection: Heal Palestine

During the month of March, our special collection will support Heal Palestine.

HEAL Palestine is working to provide every young Palestinian in Gaza a chance for a brighter future through health, education, aid, and leadership. HEAL Palestine treats injured and sick youth for free, provides mental health support for traumatized youth, sponsors volunteer medical missions to treat injured youths in Gaza, and builds up the health sector through international programs. HEAL Palestine provides urgent humanitarian aid to those who need it most, feeding thousands of children a day and providing shelter, clothing, and other basic necessities for Gaza children. February 2026 Special Collection: Doctors for Global Health

This month we support, Doctors for Global Health (DGH), as our special collection recipient. DGH is a private, not-for-profit organization promoting health, education, art, and other human rights throughout the world. 

The DGH Mission: ”To improve health and foster other human rights with those most in need by accompanying communities, while educating and inspiring others to action.”

December’s Special Collection: The Minister’s Discretionary Fund

The Special Collection for the month of December will support UU Kent’s Minister’s Discretionary Fund (MDF). The MDF is a vital resource used to assist church members and friends, as well as community members at large, that need financial support for foods, medicine, utilities, etc.

All donations to UU Kent’s MDF are tax deductible. If writing a check, please make your donations payable to the UU Church of Kent with MDF noted on the memo line.

November 2025: Re-Member

(Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation) 

Our Monthly Special Offering Recipient

The church special collection for November will go to Re-Member. Re-Member works with the Oglala Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to improve the quality of life for those who live there. They create meaningful opportunities for volunteers to develop cultural understanding. Our church youth formed a partnership with Re-Member in their service trip to the reservation in 2024. 

Re-Member is an independent, non-profit organization working with the Oglala Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota (where our UUUYJ youth have bi-annual service trips). We improve the quality of life for those who live here, and provide meaningful opportunities to serve and learn for those who volunteer and support our work.

Equality Ohio is Ohio’s statewide LGBTQ+ advocacy and legal aid organization. They have 5 departments working to achieve lived and legal equality in Ohio.

Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is the nation’s leading children’s literacy nonprofit. They focus on disrupting the U.S. literacy crisis by bringing the joy of reading to children to create skilled readers. RIF provides free, high-quality books and reading resources to children, with a focus on low-income communities and areas where access to books is limited.

Our Monthly Special Offering Recipient

World Central Kitchen provides nourishing meals for people suffering from humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes to cook and serve meals for people in need. WCK partners with local organizations and seeks to use local ingredients.

May 2025: Doctors Without Borders

Our Monthly Special Offering Recipient

Doctors Without Borders delivers emergency medical aid to people in crisis, with humanitarian projects in more than 70 countries. Doctors Without Borders offers medical assistance to people based solely on need. Their teams of doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers are often among the first on the scene when peoples’ lives are upended by conflict, disease outbreaks, or natural or human-made disasters.
