The Special Collection for the month of December will support UU Kent’s Minister’s Discretionary Fund (MDF). The MDF is a vital resource used to assist church members and friends, as well as community members at large, that need financial support for foods, medicine, utilities, etc.
All donations to UU Kent’s MDF are tax deductible. If writing a check, please make your donations payable to the UU Church of Kent with MDF noted on the memo line.
The flaming chalice is the symbol of our Unitarian Universalist faith. Each Sunday all over the U.S. and even in many other countries, we light the chalice at the beginning of our time of worship. Join us this Sunday as we share the story of our flaming chalice and what it means to individual UU’s. In addition, at the 11 AM service, we’ll be welcoming new members of our congregation into the community — who bring their own unique sparks of light to our midst!
Please bring your own chalice with you to church if you would like it to be a part of a community ‘blessing of the chalices’. If you don’t have a personal chalice, we’ll have some available, so that you can choose one and then take it home with you!
9:15 AM All Ages Service (in person only)
Led by Rev. Kristina Church, DRE Colleen Thoele, and Dir. of Music Emily Hall
What is the meaning of the flaming chalice for you personally? If you have not reflected on this before, think about what the cup or bowl might mean, what the flame might mean, and what they could mean together. (There aren’t any right or wrong answers!)
Do you have a version of our UU chalice that’s important to you, such as jewelry or a tattoo, or a chalice you use at home? What makes it special to you? What memories and values do you associate with it?
11:00 AM A Multi-platform, Traditional Service (in-person and Zoom)
Led by Rev. Kristina Church and Worship Associate CLM Kathy Kerns.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, and participated in the annual Thanks4Giving Auction. This year we raised over $8,500 to benefit the UUCK operating budget.
It’s not too late to get a seat at some upcoming church events. Check out the catalog at www.togetherauction.com/kentuu for more details.
The UUCK needs your help in planning and implementing safety measures for our congregation. Living our Unitarian Universalist values means we need to ensure the safety of every person who participates in the life and work of the congregation, including all who attend events and activities on the church campus. Our revitalized UUCK Safety Team will be responsible for protecting the church campus, occupants, and grounds from sources of physical hazard and danger from both internal and external forces.
Those interested will be joining Rev. Kristina; Colleen Thoele, Director of Religious Education; Kathie Slater (MET Liaison); and Jennifer Gregg, Building & Grounds Coordinator, in carrying out the SAFETY TEAM CHARGE. This draft “Charge”, while created in 2023, still concisely describes the focus of the Safety Team’s responsibilities.
As a now-retired symbol of safety, Smokey the Bear, famously almost said: “WE NEED YOU” to help develop policies, recommendations, procedures and plans for safety and security during emergencies. Please help us be prepared!
If interested, please speak to any members of the Safety Team listed above, or contact the MET at [email protected]
Many thanks to Lee Brooker, Kirt Beiling, Marion Yeagler and Mike Snyder who prepared/served and cleaned-up for the Lord’s Lunch Congregate meal at Trinity Lutheran Church this past Saturday, November 8th. A special thanks to Marion who assisted with shopping and preparing ham and bean soup.
Our UUCK group prepared and served 68 meals for fellow community members. All leftover food was then donated to Miller House Shelter for consumption by families currently residing there. We are always in need of UUCK volunteers for this important Social Justice ministry–especially in this time of food insecurity.
We have fun and engage with a diverse group of people!
A Trinity Lutheran church volunteer commented to me that our UUCK volunteers “always seem so happy.”
The UUCK has been supporting the Lord’s Lunch for almost two decades. It began when Rev. Melissa and Tanya Kahl formed a team so our congregation could take turns with other churches in our community by signing up for the occasional Saturday. Since then has had several facilitators and many volunteers. Our newsletter editor Bonnie Harper recommends it as is a very rewarding experience.
Please contact our current facilitator, Camille Pavlicek-Fauser, if you have any questions or want to be involved with this (happy!) volunteer opportunity!
What if the world ended here, around a table, sharing a meal? Let’s celebrate the bonds of love and community and the way our shared human experiences create the whole world.
9:15 AM All Ages Service (in person only)
Led by Rev. Kristina Church, Director of Music Ministries Emily Hall, and Director of Religious Education Colleen Thoele.
According to poet Joy Harjo, it’s at the family dinner table that “children are given instructions on what it means to be human”. What did you learn about being human around your family’s table?
What are the Thanksgiving traditions that you grew up with? Is there a particular Thanksgiving practice that holds great meaning for you in the life you’re living now
11:00 AM A Multi-platform, Traditional Service (in-person and Zoom)
Led by Rev. Kristina Church, Director of Music Ministries Emily Hall, and Director of Religious Education Colleen Thoele, with special guests Elaine Bowen and Patricia McLoughlin, musical guest Alicia Patrice, and the KentUU Peace Choir.
Join us as we mourn the people we have lost in the last year to anti-trans violence, as we reflect on our gratitude for the trans people in our lives through whom we are made more whole, and as we reaffirm our fierce, unshakable love for trans people.

Led by Rev. Kristina Church and DRE Colleen Thoele.
Do you have an identity or quality that makes you “not fit in” to the world? How might that be a gift to the world?
What is one thing you can do to protect and take care of that part of yourself?
Today we are centering our trans community members. What is a gift that you (if you are trans or non-binary), or a trans person in your life gives to the world that you are grateful for? What can you do to protect and take care of yourself or the trans people in your life?
11:00 AM A Multi-platform, Traditional Service (in-person and Zoom)
Led by Rev. Kristina Church and Worship Associate Kevyn Breedon.
