Holiday Service Schedule – Christmas morning podcast

Holiday Service Schedule

December 22, 2016    Blue Christmas Gathering

Our annual “Blue Christmas” gathering will take place on Thursday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.  Blue Christmas services traditionally provide a place to honor loved ones lost in the preceding year.  With so much grief surrounding us now, this year’s Blue Christmas service will be not only a place to remember our departed but also to simply be in community together, to hold one another, and to find our joy again.  Please join Intern Minister Dave Clements and Commissioned Lay Minister Lori Fatchet-McGee in this service of prayer, silence, and song.

December 24, 2016  Christmas Eve

Please note that we will not be offering nursery care on Christmas Eve this year. Since the introduction of our Young Family Friendly Service, we have found that families have not been using nursery care for these services.

Parking for Christmas Eve services is available in the lot behind the Church, street parking on Gougler Avenue, and additional parking is available in the parking lots located  behind the Bissler Building and in front of the medical arts building which are located on the corners of West Main and Gougler Avenue.

4:30 PM — Young Family Friendly Service
Led by Director of Religious Education Lily Rappaport and Religious Education Assistant Colleen Thoele
This interactive service is designed especially for families with young children who are sure to be filled with wiggles and excitement. Dress your child in their Christmas finery or their Christmas pajamas – whichever will be more fun – and come join the celebration.

6:30 PM — Family Friendly Service
Led by Affiliated Minister Rev. Renee Ruchotzke, Intern Minister Dave Clements and Worship Associate Lori McGee
Created with families with school aged children in mind, this service of lessons and carols features the beautiful music of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent Peace Choir, Bell Choir and other musical guests as well as uplifting story, candlelight and a chance to reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

8:30 PM — Adult Oriented Service
Led by Affiliated Minister Rev. Renee Ruchotzke, Intern Minister Dave Clements and Worship Associate Lori McGee
Created with adults and older teens in mind, this service of lessons and carols also features the beautiful music of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent Peace Choir, Bell Choir and other musical guests as well as inspiring poetry, candlelight and a chance to reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

December 25, 2016  Christmas Day

10:00 AM —  A Celebration of Peace
Led by Intern Minister Dave Clements and Worship Associate Elaine Bowen
Perhaps the most characteristic element of Christmas is what we call the Christmas Spirit, its joy, its reassessment of life as good. This persistent presence is difficult to explain, but no one questions its genuineness. Come worship together as we learn about the Christmas spirit and experience its light.

January 1, 2017   New Year’s Day

10:00 AM —  A New Day
Led by Dave Clements and Worship Associate Carolyn Schlemmer
Today is here. A new beginning, a new opportunity, and a new chance. We have the chance to build a new way.  Our service will explore how we can be prophetic regarding our own lives and how we can leave behind those things in our past and begin anew. Come and be engaged in beginning to build a new way.

Christmas Presence – December 4, 2016

with-love-presenceLed by Commissioned Lay Minister Lori Fatchet-McGee and Worship Associate Jeff Marsh

Life is full of distractions, even more so during the holidays.  Our “presence” is valuable and meaningful, even more so than our “presents.”  How can we be more present to those around us?  This service will explore what is means to be present and the ways we can accomplish this during a busy holiday season.

Services are offered on Sunday mornings at 9:45 and 11:30 with Nursery care available for both services.
