Retiree’s Lunch – Tuesday, March 17 at noon.

lunchbagWe’ll meet for an hour to an hour and a half depending on the number of people who attend so everyone has an opportunity to check in with the group. All retirees are welcome to join us. Bring your own lunch; beverages will be provided.

Melissa will be unable to attend this month as she will be attending the Allies for Racial Equity and Diverse Revolutionary UU Multicultural Ministries conference. Marion Yeagler will be facilitating in her absence.  In addition to the usual opportunity to connect and share updates, Marion will share a few words about our expansion plans and capital campaign and answer any questions people may have.

Church Hosting OMD Peer Chaplain Training for Youth and Young Adults

OMDrainbow50Over the weekend of April 24-26, we will be hosting approximately 30 older youth and young adults who will be attending the OMD Peer Chaplain Training.  This training, co-facilitated by Evin Carvill-Zeimer and Lauren Edmonds, a young adult from our church, will help the participants become caring and compassionate listeners, prepared to serve the community at conferences and other UU community events.

We need a group of volunteers to prepare, serve and clean-up both lunch and dinner on Saturday, April 25th.  The food will be all ready purchased.  I am hoping to recruit 8 people total: 4 at lunch and 4 at dinner.  When we have done this in the past, volunteers reported that it was a lot of fun.  This is a great way to support our youth and young adults without making a major time commitment.

Please let me know if you’d like to participate.  Email me at [email protected].

Thanks!

Pondering Parables – Starting One Week Later

bible-pewLast fall a group of us gathered to explore several important passages in the Hebrew Bible. This spring we continue our Bible study with an exploration of the Christian scriptures through some of Jesus’ parables.  Bring a Bible and join us for any or all of the following evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm:  April 1, April 8, April 15 and April 29.  We will meet in the Founders Lounge.  No experience is necessary, only a willingness to meet the Bible and consider what wisdom it might have to offer you.

Selma Sunday – March 8, 2015

edmund pettus bridgeLed by Rev. Melissa Carvill Ziemer

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the historic march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965.  As thousands travel to Selma, we will join millions of others in expressing our solidarity with the work that remains for us to do.  Resilience is not just a solo act.  Collective resilience is part of what it takes to “bend the moral arc of the universe toward justice.”

It Starts At Home – March 1, 2015

Lift up Booker T WashingtonLed by Rev. Melissa Carvill Ziemer, Director of Religious Education Karen Lapidus and Worship Associate Sophie Smith

The stories we hear and the lessons we learn about resilience in the places we call home have a tremendous capacity to lift us up or bring us down.  How can we get better at lifting each other up?
