Nobody But Yourself – January 31, 2017

To-be-nobody-but-yourself.E.E.Cumming-Quotes-about-being-true-to-yourselfLed by  Rev. Melissa Carvill Ziemer and Worship Associate Justin Czekaj

Quotations attributed to both e.e. cummings and Ralph Waldo Emerson tell us that the work of being yourself is truly an accomplishment.  When others are trying to make you just like them or just like everyone else, being yourself is no small feat of resistance.  What does it take to be nobody but yourself?

Winter Institute is almost here!

Salt-Fork-State-Park-Lodge-131Come, sit by the fire with us.

Winter Institute (WI) is all of the fun and socializing of SI without the hectic schedule.

There are frosty outdoor activities like sledding, hiking and cross country skiing. For those who choose to stay in their slippers all weekend, there is a beautiful lodge with its many cozy corners and fireplaces. The pool and hot tub are truly a wintertime treat. There will be daily morning and evening casual worship services, morning water aerobics (after worship,) pre-dinner cocktail hour in the hospitality suite, and breakfast and dinner meals are included with registration. There are fellow UUs always ready to play board games or to join in the community jigsaw puzzle. We have wonderful community worship services and great conversations.

Winter Institute is February 12-15, 2016
At Salt Fork State Park Lodge, near Cambridge, Ohio, two hours east of Columbus
Registration is now open!

New to UU Classes in February!

gold_chaliceCurious? Interested in learning more? Ready to take the next step?

Our “New to UU” classes cover everything you wanted to know about the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent in particular and Unitarian Universalism in general, but didn’t know where to go or whom to ask.  Well, maybe not everything, but we try to give you an overview, a starting point ~ some history of both, some organizational details. Come join the conversation.  And, if you’re curious about membership, we will help to clarify what membership in UUCK entails.

Part 1 will be on Sunday, February 14, from 9-11 am. Part 2 will be on Sunday, February 21 from 9-11 am.  You may attend one or both, although attendance at both is encouraged.  Different topics will be covered in each.  We will gather at the Annex, the yellow house next to the church.

If you have any questions, contact Claudia Miller.

minimum wageLed by  Rev. Melissa Carvill Ziemer and Worship Associate Carolyn Andrews Schlemmer

In 2014 the Unitarian Universalist Association chose Escalating Inequality as its 2014-2018 Study Action Issue. The escalation of income inequality influences many of the social injustices which are of our concern to our faith community. Today we begin the first of a two part sermon series trying to understand the big picture of income inequality today.

Confessions of the Ordinary Kind- January 3, 2016

Led by Kristina Spaude and Worship Associate Lori Fatchet-McGee

What are your deepest, darkest secrets, those you shared with no one? It may be a “regret, fear, betrayal, desire, confession, or childhood humiliation” — these are the secrets sought by the amazing mail art project called postsecret. We’ll explore such secrets, and what might happen if we do share them. The creator of postsecret. com, Frank Warren, said, “Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. If we could just remember this, I think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world.”
