Did you know that our Hobbs Hall Construction Team, consisting of Andrew Rome, Katie Grigg-Miller, Blaine Vesely, and Rev. Steven Protzman (ex officio), meet on a weekly basis? This dedicated team monitors the progress of Hobbs Hall construction, addresses questions, issues and concerns as they arise and makes building decisions about colors, materials and finishes. In addition, the team also meets with the architect and the contractor on a weekly basis while the building is under construction. Let’s hear a hearty and warm round of applause for the Hobbs Hall Construction Team!
Many of you have followed the progress through photos posted on the UUCK’s Facebook page, the live construction webcam on the church’s website, or enjoyed Hal Walker’s fantastic video tour of Hobbs Hall shared during Sunday’s Service, Nov. 29th while he sang the song “Turning of the World” in the echoing chamber of our new space!
While pictures tell a thousand stories, some of the specific items completed to date include:
- Sanitary and water connected, storm structures, and grease tank installed, inspected and passed.
- Road patched.
- Framing complete
- Truss designs approved by Kent Building Dept.
- Brickwork near complete
- EV charging station has been determined
- Exterior walls- 1” insulation, sheathing, overbuilds
- Dried in roof
Coming soon or currently underway:
- Roof shingled
- Window installation
- Concrete work
Decisions have been reached on windows, siding, roofing, brick veneer, brick mortar as well as soffit, fascia, and gutter options. Coming up: Flooring choices, lighting, and acoustic considerations.
Finally, the team reports that unexpectedly – in a good way – they were able to carve out some additional storage space! If you are interested in serving on a team to make decisions on interior furnishings, equipment, building policies & procedures, rental agreements and landscaping – which also includes hardscape items – PLEASE – email the church at [email protected] to let us know ASAP as these groups are in the process of forming now. We’re Growing! Hobbs Hall Construction Update
UUCK’s Board of Trustees is excited to share highlights from the Construction Team’s report on Hobbs Hall. This dedicated team meets weekly to monitor progress, address questions and make decisions on building details. In the past few weeks, the following has been accomplished (list is representative):
- Water, Fire Line and FTL installed and inspected
- Exterior wall framing in process
- Hydrant installed and inspected
- Storm completed and tied in at the street around neighbor’s pool
- Exterior walls- framing and sheathing
- Backfill of water line trenches
- Installing vault required by the City of Kent
The team has reviewed and selected samples for windows, siding, roofing, brick veneer, and brick mortar. Other items under consideration include choosing soffit, fascia and gutter options; interior trim options, flooring samples, sound design, lighting and receptacles. We are grateful to Andrew Rome, Katie Grigg Miller, Blaine Vesely and Rev. Steven for their ongoing commitment and stewardship in managing the construction of Hobbs Hall on our behalf.
