April 18th Spiritual Cinema, 7:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. in Fessenden Hall, “Cave of Silken Web” (CANCELED)

Cave of Silken Web is a Buddhist comedy, created in China by the same people who created the Oscar winning film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. This movie is inspired by the Chinese epic poem “Journey to the West”. The story has the monk Tripitama, accompanied by The Monkey King Hanuman, and a talking pig, try to resist the worldly temptations of the Spider Women. These temptations are presented as a satire on western materialism. While the first two hold their own, the pig spirit is far too sensual to resist! See what happens when he tries to pose as his teacher, and enjoy all the forbidden joys! A true The Laughing Buddhalaugh riot!

Spiritual Cinema, Wed. Feb 15th

The Invention of Lying is the movie being shown at 7:30 p.m., Wed. Feb. 15th. in Fessenden Hall. This movie is about the only man who can lie in a world where everyone must tell the truth. After an act of kindness, he backs into creating Religion, then must explain why bad things happen if “The Big Man In The Sky” is responsible for all that happens. This hilarious story looks at mankind’s need to believe in something from a very compassionate perspective. As always, a discussion will follow the film.

A Dangerous Vision?, January 15th, 2012

Rev. Melissa Carvill-Ziemer and Worship Associate Bonnie Harper –

Every year we take another look at the vision that inspired the ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Many people remember King talking about his dream; fewer remember when he began saying that his dream had become a nightmare. This morning we will explore what he meant by that and what meaning his message still has today.
