The song in our teal hymnal “The Fire of Commitment” says that our future begins when we have “deep assurance of the flame that burns within”.  With readings and songs we will explore the fire of commitment as a beacon of light and hope guiding us on our journey, as a song that inspires us to be brave and continue the struggle for freedom, and as a symbol that challenges us to do the work of justice.

It is the time of Imbolc, the Pagan festival that celebrates the growing light and the promise of the earth awakening once again. It is also the festival of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of fire, spring, healing, and poetry. As we celebrate Brigid and Imbolc with stories, songs, and rituals, we will invite Brigid’s fire of creativity to rise inside us and guide us in bringing peace, justice, and hope to the world.

An imaginarium is a place devoted to the imagination. It is a place where we can bring our dreams and hopes for a better world and create ways to make these dreams and hopes real. Together during this service we will create an imaginarium and put our imaginations to work to envision not only who we will be as individuals in this new year, but also who we will be as a congregation and what we want to do together. In his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. expressed his dream that one day people would not be judged on the color of their skin but on their character and that the equality expressed in the Declaration of Independence would become a reality. During this service we will remember Dr. King and think about how we can re-imagine his dream for these challenging times.

Who will come to Bethlehem on Christmas morn to kneel before the newborn baby king? One small fish from the river with scales of red, red gold.   One wild bee from the heather.  One gray lamb from the field.  One ox from the high pasture.  One black bull from the herd.  One goatling from the far fields..  And all the little children. Join us for our annual all-ages pageant as we tell the Christmas story with music and poetry through the eyes of the animals who may have been there.
