The Fire of Commitment

Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 10 AM

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Heidi Emhoff Wood.

The song in our teal hymnal “The Fire of Commitment” says that our future begins when we have “deep assurance of the flame that burns within”.  With readings and songs we will explore the fire of commitment as a beacon of light and hope guiding us on our journey, as a song that inspires us to be brave and continue the struggle for freedom, and as a symbol that challenges us to do the work of justice.

Where Do We Come From? Where Are We Going?

Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 10:00 AM

A virtual service led the Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Kathy Kerns.

As we begin our annual pledge campaign with its theme of “Imagine the places we’ll go”, we’ll take time to look at where we’ve come from and where we imagine ourselves going in the next year.  We’ll celebrate what we’ve achieved in the past year, reflect on the dreams we’ve shared for our future, and answer the invitation to share our gifts, our money, and our time so that we can continue our journey into a future we’ll create together.

A Time to Heal or a Call to Action?

Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 10 AM

A virtual service led by Rev. Christie Anderson and Worship Associate Heidi Shaffer Bish.

What do you want from your church – renewed hope, spiritual growth, connection? This worship service will focus on two juxtaposed reasons: inner uplift and healing relative to a rallying call for social action. We will unpack the challenges of a church community in meeting our inner emotional needs while addressing the needs of those beyond our walls.

Just a Touch of Love

Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Eric van Baars.

Have you ever heard the old folk tale about the village that needed a new meeting hall? It’s a tale of disagreements, and greed, and forgetting what matters most. It’s a strange tale too, because it doesn’t have an ending! In this sermon and service, purchased by Eric van Baars at our Service Auction, we’re going to tell the story and using our imaginations and hopes for our future, we’re going to write our own ending together!

Now What?

Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 10 AM

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Diana Van Winkle.

As our nation begins a new chapter of its history, we continue to wrestle with the reality that our country is deeply divided. Is healing possible and what about accountability? What do we do now? How does Unitarian Universalism guide us in finding our way forward? Together we will wrestle with these difficult questions, discern who our faith asks us to be in the days to come, and how we can create a new story together.

A New Rising Fire

Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 10 AM

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Lori Mirkin-McGee.

It is the time of Imbolc, the Pagan festival that celebrates the growing light and the promise of the earth awakening once again. It is also the festival of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of fire, spring, healing, and poetry. As we celebrate Brigid and Imbolc with stories, songs, and rituals, we will invite Brigid’s fire of creativity to rise inside us and guide us in bringing peace, justice, and hope to the world.

Welcome to the Imaginarium

Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Heidi Emhoff-Wood.

An imaginarium is a place devoted to the imagination. It is a place where we can bring our dreams and hopes for a better world and create ways to make these dreams and hopes real. Together during this service we will create an imaginarium and put our imaginations to work to envision not only who we will be as individuals in this new year, but also who we will be as a congregation and what we want to do together. Thanks to the Harry Noden Memorial Music Fund, we also welcome Lea Morris as our special musical guest for this service

Re-imagining the Dream

Sunday, January 17, 2020 10:00 AM

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Colleen Thoele.

In his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. expressed his dream that one day people would not be judged on the color of their skin but on their character and that the equality expressed in the Declaration of Independence would become a reality. During this service we will remember Dr. King and think about how we can re-imagine his dream for these challenging times.

To See the World in a Grain of Sand

Sunday, January 10, 2021

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Diana Van Winkle.

William Blake wrote: “to see the world in a grain of sand…” I recently discovered the concept of fractals, infinite repeating patterns all tied together in a vast web beyond our comprehension, and how nature is made of fractals. Using our imaginations, visual images, readings, and songs, we will learn about fractals, our Seventh Principle, and the power of creative energy to renew us and sustain us as we say yes to life’s invitation to
flourish.

Letting All Lights Shine

Sunday, January 3, 2021

A virtual service led by Kathy Kerns and Worship Associate Randy Bish.

It feels at times like we are living in a culture of critique.  While feedback from others can help us grow, it can also wear on our souls and even keep us from expressing ourselves.  As we embark on a new year, how can we help create a culture that allows everyone’s light to shine?

The Space Between

Sunday, December 27, 2020

A virtual service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associate Heidi Shaffer.

Kate R. Walker writes: “In between, liminal, that space where we wait. To stand on the threshold, waiting for something to end, and something new to arrive, a pause in the rumble of time.” As we find ourselves in the space between, waiting for the old year to end and the new year to arrive, with its promise and possibilities, we will share our hopes and dreams for 2021 with songs, stories and rituals.

A virtual Christmas Eve service led by Rev. Steven Protzman and Worship Associates Kathy Kerns and Heidi Emhoff-Wood.

There is a poem by James Agee that says: “Sure on this shining night of star made shadows round, kindness must watch for me…I weep for wonder” As we welcome Christmas once again, we will tell stories and sing songs about the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. Together we’ll reflect on the beauty and wonder of this special night and share the light of love and hope with one another.

Come to the Stable

Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 10 AM

A virtual service led by Director of Religious Education Colleen Thoele and Sandy Eaglen.

Who will come to Bethlehem on Christmas morn to kneel before the newborn baby king? One small fish from the river with scales of red, red gold.   One wild bee from the heather.  One gray lamb from the field.  One ox from the high pasture.  One black bull from the herd.  One goatling from the far fields..  And all the little children. Join us for our annual all-ages pageant as we tell the Christmas story with music and poetry through the eyes of the animals who may have been there.
