February 22 kicks off our Annual Stewardship Campaign: Raising the Bar! Stewardship Packets have been mail and soon you’ll be contacted by a UU Church of Kent Canvasser. We hope you’ll take advantage of the fellowship opportunity to share how your life has been enriched by the many programs and ministries offered at our beloved church.

In this 50th anniversary year of the civil rights struggle that unfolded in Selma, I invite you to a discussion. To prepare, please go see the movie Selma and read Mark Morrison- Reed’s book The Selma Awakening: How the Civil Rights Movement Tested and Changed Unitarian Universalism.
Rev. Melissa will host discussions on Tuesday, March 3 in the Founders Lounge and Wednesday, March 11 in Fessenden Hall from 7 to 9 pm. Feel free to come to either or both.
For the worship service on March 29th, Melissa and I would like to display photographs taken at Child Dedications. If you have photos ~ recent or from the distant past ~ please share them with me.

Are you curious about how you can help support our congregation’s caring ministry? The Care Team will be hosting an informal gathering on Sunday, February 22 after each service in the Eldredge Annex. Come meet some of the team members and consider how you might become involved. Refreshments will be served.
On the last Sunday of each month, with a few exceptions, we bring you pancakes made with love by your friends at the church. We offer exciting flavors, creative toppings, original sauces and it’s a wonderful time to sit down, relax and enjoy good company over good food.
The Fundraising committee brings this to you as an ongoing fund raiser for the church. BUT we cannot continue this tradition if you don’t step up and volunteer to help. It’s a FUN time in the kitchen and we have experienced people who will show you how to do everything you need to do in order to prepare, cook, serve and clean up.
What flavor would YOU like to cook this month? As the Host or Hosts you and/or your family gets to choose the flavor we serve and cook the pancakes too!

We are sorry to share the news that Heidrun Hultgren has died. If you would like to send your condolences to Heidrun’s family, please contact the Church Office.
Calling hours will be held in our sanctuary on Saturday, January 31 from 5 to 7 pm. Selected pieces of Heidrun’s art will be on display and her children, Diana, Erik and Gunnar would be pleased to greet you at that time.
A memorial service will be held in our sanctuary on Sunday, February 1 at 3 pm with a reception immediately following. Members and friends of the congregation are invited to participate as greeters and we are also in need of several people to help prepare the reception. The art exhibit hanging in the church are paintings that John and Martha’s granddaughter, Layla Kluth, age 7, made when she was in Kent after Christmas. They are for sale and if any pieces are sold the proceeds will be donated to the church at Layla’s request.

While most of the congregation has been focused the last few weeks on holidays, new year’s resolutions, and producing or enjoying great music and sermons at church, your Building Expansion Team and Capital Campaign Team have been working behind the scenes to make our church vision a reality. And soon you will hear all about our work! Within the next month we will be distributing the proposal for expanding our church facilities, and in March you (the congregation) will vote on whether to proceed with the proposed plans. The proposal addresses the needs for new social hall space, increased and better RE space, and renovation of the sanctuary. Stay tuned! There will be many opportunities to learn about the project, including all church meetings.

This Week Only – Visit the “I Make a Difference” Mural
Our Grades 3-5 RE class is learning that each of us ~ young and not so young, long-term member or short-term friend ~ gives to our church in many ways. They are inviting everyone to add a paper hand cut-out to the mural that they have hung in Fessenden Hall. Please write you name along with what you do to help support our faith community. And while you’re there, be sure to read what others have shared.
