What if You Don’t Have Boots? – March 15, 2015

We’ve all heard, and probably used, the expression, “Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps.”  But have you even considered what that implies?  In order to pull yourself up by these proverbial bootstraps, you must first have boots. In this service, I will use my personal “success” story to consider how and from where we get our “boots” in American society and why some people don’t have them at all.

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the historic march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965.  As thousands travel to Selma, we will join millions of others in expressing our solidarity with the work that remains for us to do.  Resilience is not just a solo act.  Collective resilience is part of what it takes to “bend the moral arc of the universe toward justice.”

Christmas Eve Services – December 24, 2014

Services available at 4:30 pm, 6:30 pm, and 8:30 pm

4:30 pm – Young Family Friendly Service
Led by the Rev. Renee Zimelis Ruchotzke and Director of Religious Education Karen Lapidus
This interactive service is designed especially for families with young children who are sure to be filled with wiggles and excitement. Dress your child in their Christmas finery or their Christmas pajamas – whichever will be more fun – and come join the celebration.

          Cookies and apple cider will be offered during a simple fellowship time immediately following the 4:30 service. christmas eve service-17-X2

6:30 pm – Family Friendly Service
Led by the Rev. Melissa Carvill Ziemer, Director of Religious Education Karen Lapidus and Worship Associate Lori McGee
Created with families with school aged children in mind, this service of lessons and carols features the beautiful music of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent Peace Choir and Tone Chimers as well as uplifting story, candlelight and a chance to reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

          Nursery care for infants and toddlers will be offered only at this service.

          A Christmas Eve coffee hour will be held between the 6:30 and 8:30 services. 

8:30 pm – Adult Oriented Service
Led by the Rev. Melissa Carvill Ziemer and Worship Associate Lori McGee
Created with adults and older teens in mind, this service of lessons and carols also features the beautiful music of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent Peace Choir and Tone Chimers as well as inspiring poetry, candlelight and a chance to reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

No podcast will be available for this service.
