Once Upon a Family: Storytelling as Spiritual Practice

Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 10 AM.

A multi-platform service led by Kathy Walker and Saul Flanner.

Stories are at the heart of all of our services, but our hope for this service is to consider the importance of storytelling as spiritual practice. Family stories connect us to those we’ve lost, teach us who we are and what we value, and give us new understanding. Together, let us embrace storytelling as a way to live our UU principles, build family strengths and recognize our shared humanity. We hope to see you there!

We Hold These Truths

Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 10 AM

A multi-platform service led by Vivien Sandlund with Worship Associate Heidi Emhoff Wood.

The Declaration of Independence has long been understood to express the principles underlying the experiment that is the American republic: universal liberty and equality. These principles have always been aspirational. Americans have long sought to make liberty and equality real for all. How far have we come, and how do we move ahead to make this vision real? How can we as UUs work to ensure that all people are both free and equal?

As we have our annual meeting and look back at a year that has been both exciting and challenging, we will reflect on how we’ve recalculated to adapt to changes and how we will continue to need to recalculate to live into this next chapter of our congregation’s life and work.

Idleness as a Spiritual Practice

Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 10 AM

A multi-platform service led by CLM Kathy Kerns and Worship Associate Heidi Shaffer Bish.

Our culture is often very focused on time, with busyness often treated as a valued state of being. By contrast, Italians practice “Dolce Far Niente”, the sweetness of doing nothing, and spiritual practices like honoring the Sabbath are designed to help us slow down to have the time and space to connect with our values and to the people and the world around us. This service explores the wisdom and benefits of adopting idleness, or as the sweetness of doing nothing, as a spiritual practice.

Every Day is Earth Day

Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 11 AM

A multi-platform service led by Director of Religious Education Colleen Thoele and our UUCK Children and Youth.

DUE TO A POWER OUTAGE, THE SUNDAY SERVICE IS DELAYED AND WILL BEGIN AT 11 AM.

Our Unitarian Universalist principles affirm that, from fruit flies to giant sequoia trees, all life is interwoven and interconnected. That interdependence moves us to a sense of awe and invites us to care for the life that moves among us. Today as a community of all generations, we will celebrate the web of life and recommit ourselves to the care and keeping of our precious Earth home.
