The Declaration of Independence has long been understood to express the principles underlying the experiment that is the American republic: universal liberty and equality. These principles have always been aspirational. Americans have long sought to make liberty and equality real for all. How far have we come, and how do we move ahead to make this vision real? How can we as UUs work to ensure that all people are both free and equal?
